This weekend I am looking forward to a bit of a relaxing weekend out at Harrison Hot Springs for the car show that will be on the grass and is one of the best spots in the lower mainland for a car show. While I reflect on who relaxing this will be, I cannot help buy think about going to Bonneville Speedweek next year after too many years away.

Why not let's plan a full frontal assault on the salt and get as many Canadian Gear heads we can to head there for a few days of Salt Speed and Sun and then head to Carmel for Car Week? Lets do this for sure in 2018.

I just got back from possibly the greatest location in North America for a carshow, the Pebble Beach Concours d Elegance held on the 18th fairway right on the water in Carmel California. I was unaware of a car from Richmond that was competing. The French Cup award was won by a 1947 Delahaye 135 MS controller, bodied by Figoni & Falaschi and owned by Wayne Grafton.

They hand out great little books detailing all the cars but only hand them out at about 9 am on the morning of the show. I was too busy shooting to read through it. Luckily local car collector Don Voth saw me at the show and told me about the Delahaye. The car is the epitome of elegance from an era when you bought the chassis from a manufacturer, then had to find a suitable coach builder to build a body for it.

I was lucky to make it down for the Tour d Elegance Thursday morning where the cars competing at Pebble Beach win extra points by going on a drive around the Carmel area.

On the Friday I spent all day at the Mazda Laguna Seca Raceway for the Rolex Monterey Historic races. One of the highlights for me was the 1954 Jaguar XK120 of George Holt from Gabriola island. Holt convinced some unwitting friend to accompany him on his top-down drive from BC to the racetrack. There were a few from BC racing and many fans as well.

On Saturday morning I went to the Concorso Italiano to see the greatest Italian cars and Italian designed cars. There were two Nash Healeys from the early 50's on display side by side. A cool quirky car built by Donald Healey before the Austin Healeys were made. I had only seen a handfull of these cars before.

I encourage every Carnut to make the pilgrimage at least once...possibly start the weekend before at the Bonneville Speed Week in Utah and then drive over to the Carmel area for an absolute over the top display of car events possible, with something for everyone....especially the kids.
